On the good, the true, the beautiful

One can imagine large swaths of art history being populated by art that was largely concerned with the good, with the beautiful only part of a convenient delivery vehicle. To the extent that it ever existed it has now been largely forgotten. Didactic, sentimental, easily explained - all qualities that for art to have currency today are still quite valuable - changing from being vehicles for religious dogma to being financial instruments in and of themselves.
